Two police constables are under investigation after they allegedly searched a man who was riding a bicycle "up stop" and pocketed the last little bit of money that he had - a mere $11 dollars.
ASP Smith told us more:
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer
"Edlin Perez reported to police that on 8th June 2025, at approximately 9:25 p.m., he was riding on Orange Street. Contrary to the flow of traffic, he was intercepted by two police officers who conducted a search on him. At the conclusion of that search, Mr. Perez alleges that one of the police officer requested said money that was in his possession, and he handed it over, which amounts to approximately $11. Having made this report, police conducted an investigation where the scene was visited and statements were recorded from the implicated officers. The internal investigation as well as the criminal investigation continues into this matter."
"The investigation dictates what steps are being taken. So in the investigative stage statements are being recorded and dependent on what those statements disclose and whatever other additional information disclosed that will determine what course of action will be taken."
