In February of 2020, 31-year-old American National Arianna Jones was brutally murdered in her San Ignacio apartment, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend, 23 year old Belizean Javan Moody.
Well, tonight Javan Moody has been acquitted. It happened this morning in the Belmopan High Court before Justice Francis Cumberbatch for where he was bring tried without a jury.
Justice Cumberbatch said that the crown could not establish beyond a reasonable doubt that Moody is the one who stabbed Jones to death. He was also of the view that there were major inconsistencies with the DNA evidence.
The crown had relied heavily on a droplet of blood the police claim they found in Moody's ear. It was supposed to be Jones's blood, but the DNA result came back showing a mixture of blood types present.
With that, Moody's defense that he went home to find her dead stood and he is a free man tonight after 5 years on remand.
Last year, Jones's mother expressed grave reservations about what she felt was a shaky prosecution.
