What was to be a peaceful village meeting on Saturday in Indian Creek village quickly escalated into a public brawl.
And according to members of the Indian Creek village council, it stems from a disagreement between the village alcalde and the community who have not been at odds - with allegations being made for defamation of character, lack of due process, and abuse of power.
When the slate attempted to query these charges this past Saturday- and the alcalde didn't want to hear it - that's when the meeting erupted into a violent confrontation. Their vice chair explained to us what exactly happened.
Alfredo Cucul, Vice Chairman, Indian Creek village

"Some of the concerns coming from the public meeting was to remove the alcalde, but during that time the village council also went further and told them that they will go further to seek legal advice. And during the legal advice he was told the charges were beyond the alcalde's jurisdiction and then it is supposed to go to higher courts not supposed to be the alcalde in the village giving out those charges. So that was brought up the chairman/ village council also mentioned in the community that it is beyond the alcalde's jurisdiction to do so, so that is what got people unsatisfied and concerned. And that's when the alcalde got up off his chair and came into the crowd and he started defending himself and say that the village council has been charged and they need more charges. And that is when the people in the community became unsatisfied and one of the residents from the public meeting told the alcalde he was acting as if he is under the influence, and he is not doing the right thing and so he turned and asked the village police to arrest the person."
The slate says it will now proceed with legal action.
