What started out as a small community initiative by Police Superintendent Aaron Gamboa has turned into a major national schoolbag drive.
And, tonight, as a result, over a thousand schoolbags are piled high at businessman Said Perdomo's office awaiting distribution.
A&R Enterprises delivered the bags today comprising 200 JanSport and 840 Everest bags along with various school supplies to put in those bags.
The total value of the A&R shipment is just shy of $50,000 dollars - which is made up from the 16,500 dollar donation from Perdomo, Vin's Liquors and other friends, matched by Acquity BPO and A&R.
This afternoon, when the bags arrived, Superintendent Gamboa was - as they say - like a kid in a candy store - eagerly planning his next round of donations of these branded bags.
And while Gamboa will get to distribute these bags as he chooses, Perdomo's initiative has picked up a lot of traction. RJB Construction, Megabingo and others have volunteered another 15 thousand dollars in donations. So, he will be getting some more bags and likely distributing them nationally through the Rotary Club. Plans are still taking shape and we will keep you posted.
