Last week, PM Briceno was in Mexico where he attended both a trilateral meeting with the Presidents of Mexico and Guatemala. After that, he attended a bilateral meeting with the Mexican President. Now, no public announcement has been made to announce what they discussed or agreed to.

So, today we asked Foreign Minister Fonseca who told us both meetings centered around conservation, security and other issues. Here's what he told us.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Foreign Affairs

"We had a very good, meeting in, Mexico. As you know, there were two meetings. One was, trilateral meeting between Belize, Mexico and Guatemala. The primary objective of that trilateral meeting was to sign this bio cultural, agreement, creating a bio cultural corridor. Which covers, you know, land in all three countries. Including a number of the reserve areas that we have in Belize. It was a statement from all three countries that we are absolutely committed to the protection of the environment. We're committed, for future generations, to create this bio cultural corridor, which will protect the rainforests and protect the diversity and the flora and fauna and animals that live in that space. So I think it was a very, very historic agreement that sent a very strong message from Belize and our neighboring countries about our commitment, for future generations of the protection of the environment. The other part of the meeting was a bilateral meeting between Belize and Mexico. I saw a meeting between Prime Minister and President Sheinbaum of Mexico and their respective teams. And there we discussed many different issues energy, trade, investment, tourism, education, culture. You know, and security, very important security issues as well. So we thought it was a very, very productive meeting, very productive day in Mexico, in Campeche. You know, we were able to I think, come out of it with specific outcomes in terms of all of those areas, and agreements we reached, that will obviously have to be followed up on by technical teams. But we were very hopeful and optimistic about the outcomes of those meetings."
