We'll have the response to his allegations from the commissioner of police shortly. But today in Belmopan Courtney Menzies spoke to his mother who says her son had made too many enemies:
Katherine Alma Williams, Mother of Ryan Budna
"Most naturally I feel bad, I don't feel good about it at all and it's something that has been looking to happen for a long time, just because Joseph was talking about the government and talk about this one and that one, they don't like him for that because he brings out truth and he still insists on doing it and really actually, it's police who did it though. It's the same police from Orange Walk who did it, they're the same ones who did it, exactly they did it."
Reporter
"So you believe your son was legitimately kidnapped?"
Katherine Alma Williams, Mother of Ryan Budna
"By them. And they did him so much things while they took him. They beat him, they sat down on him. When he moved to try to breathe, they butted him with the gun. They taped his eyes, they taped his mouth. Would they want them to do that to their children? They wouldn't want them to do that to their children, why do they do it to people's children for?"
"This thing came by somebody who saw everything that happened. They saw even when they took him to the place and all that. Belize police are the ones who did it, they took him to the place and just dumped him over there like they dump an animal."
Reporter
"Across the border?"
Katherine Alma Williams, Mother of Ryan Budna
"Yes, all the way in Arenal. And they saw everything and they said everything. I know what's going on."
Reporter
"What's it been like for you as a mother, because this isn't Mr Budna's first run in with the police and the law, so what has been like for you over the years?"
Katherine Alma Williams, Mother of Ryan Budna
"It's very hard and with me it's more hard because I have two special care kids home. I have two of them to take care of, two of them at home. And with this, I can't sleep in the night, I worry."
Reporter
"What do you make of the charges that have been levied on Mr Budna, both in Guatemala and when he was here in Belize so many years ago?"
Katherine Alma Williams, Mother of Ryan Budna
"The charges that he had? The charges that he had, whatsoever he did, he has to stand up to it. I can't know all what he does, he's out there and I can't know if this is true or that is true, I can't know."
Reporter
"But even with all those run-ins with the law and all of those charges, you're still fighting for justice for your son."
Katherine Alma Williams, Mother of Ryan Budna
"Yes, I have to fight because that's my child and he's not the worst."
