He Chopped Off A Man's Thumb, Now Cal Has Been Remanded

A Caye Caulker man is behind bars tonight-accused of attempting to kill a fellow island resident with a machete.

24-year-old tour guide Alexander Fernando Cal was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate's Court today for attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and dangerous harm.

Police say around 12:40 last Thursday morning, Mark Budd, 37, was ambushed in the Bahia area. Budd suffered chop wounds to the elbow and head, and his left thumb was partially amputated. A 24-inch machete was recovered from the scene.

Cal has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October 27th, when he will return to court.
