There was quite a scare on the Macal River on Sunday morning between San Ignacio and Santa Elena.
A crew was working on the temporary bridge when the cable on the boom of the Caren suddenly snapped. Here's what it looked like as captured by Kent Pandy:
As you can see no one was hurt - but had it fallen a few feet to the right - it could have caused serious injury to the men working on the bridge.
The MIDH Chief Engineer tells us that it was a contractor equipment malfunction which happened while they were placing the final deck slabs for the bridge. The crane was in the process of removing one of the old wooden piles when the cable on the boom snapped. The costs are fully the contractor's responsibility, and while his insurance would have covered any injuries, none were reported.
The final deck slab was successfully poured today.
