Tonight a 47-year-old Canadian man is critical and a 19 year old Belizean has been charged for lashing him across the head.
It happened during a violent altercation on Caye Caulker on Sunday evening.
Investigations revealed that a dispute inside a residence involving 19-year-old Nelbert Choc Jr. and 52-year-old Idelso Acosta escalated when Acosta reportedly swung a machete at Choc. Choc then threw a 2x4 plank at Acosta, which missed him and struck Sanford as he was exiting the house.
Police responded and found Charles Sanford bleeding from his ear and forehead with swelling to his head.
Sanford was treated at the Caye Caulker Health Center and later transported to KHMH in Belize City in critical but stable condition.
Both men were detained, and on January 6, police formally charged Choc Jr. with Use of Deadly Means of Harm and Dangerous Harm.
