29 year old Gustavo Adolfo Banos Arellanos was detained by elements of the Guatemalan Army at a routine checkpoint in San Luis, Peten - which is 120 miles Southwest of Benque Viejo.
He was driving a Toyota Hilux without papers and inside the soldiers found firearms, ammunition, and a large sum of cash.
He had two 9mm pistols, a Beretta and a Glock, along with multiple high-capacity magazines, including two 33-round magazines, one 30-round magazine, one 20-round magazine, and one 15-round magazine, in addition to face masks and approximately $37,000 Belize dollars in cash.
As a result, Banos Arellanos was detained by military personnel and subsequently handed over to officers of the National Civil Police (PNC) of San Luis, Peten. He has been charged with possession of illegal firearms and the irregular transfer of currency.
