But is Guatemala doing its part in reducing tensions near border points? The media asked their Foreign Minister what the country is doing to prevent military - and even civilian - aggression in Belizean territory.

Carlos Ramiro Martinez Alvarado, Guatemala Foreign Minister
"Well, I believe that a joint operation between the two countries is about resolving tensions, and these tensions are about addressing the incidents that the office here is working on, and working on very well. We have tasks to do, of course, internally, including coordination with a large security force, plus the coordination that exists between the two countries. I repeat what I said: Resolving tensions throughout the area of Absence and the Sarstoon River. Some moments or cases are unfortunately unavoidable, but Guatemala is committed to resolving these incidents."
