In April of 2024, 20 year old Oscar Galindo was accused of driving drunk and causing the death of 19 year old Denia Rowland. He was behind the wheel when he lost control of the vehicle causing it to flip several times. At the time he was charged for manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, drove motor vehicle without due care and attention and drove with alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit.
But today in the high court he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of causing death by careless conduct.
Justice Derick Sylvester deferred sentencing to April 14, 2026, ordered a social inquiry report and character witness statements, and extended Galindo's bail.
Initially Galindo was unrepresented and so he was appointed an attorney by the state, which in this case is Oscar Selgado.
