Tonight there is grumbling in some sections of the legal community after news went out that 6 new magistrates have been appointed and all of them are foreign.
That's the report but when we checked with the President of the Bar Association, William Lindo who sits on The Belize Judicial and Legal Services Commission he told us that in fact Belizeans are included among those that were hired, but that they are in the minority.
He added that only 3 Belizeans met the requirements and were shortlisted for an interview. He explains that Belize can't compete with the salary packages being offered in the wider Caribbean.
And while Lindo says at least 2 Belizeans were hired, our sources in the legal community insist that all 6 new magistrates - including a senior magistrate - are from overseas.
