And to assist with the efforts, a community WhatsApp group is being set up to give residents easy access to all 3 police precincts in the city. Mayor Cawich said that he and and the area rep are working on it:
Pablo Cawich, Mayor of Belmopan
"We have another solution which we are presently working on. We already started the approach. I had spoken to Honorable Mira about implementing a WhatsApp community, a WhatsApp outreach for the police. This is an approach where we are getting three phone numbers because Belmopan has three precincts that operate near the Belmopan or as the Belmopan area. That is the Belmopan headquarters, the main substation, the Maya Mopan precinct and the Roaring Creek precinct. These three offices will receive a smartphone or an intelligent phone with a WhatsApp number and these numbers will be added to the different neighborhood groups so that anytime the community is explaining suspects or suspicions of people in their area, the police would be able to know immediately. One of the complaints that sometimes the public has is that when they call nobody answer so this is just a backup system it is not intended to replace any type of solution it is it is merely a backup to ensure that communication can be improved and evidence gathering can also be improved because if you have pictures of suspects or whatever you could immediately send it to the police."
