She's been twice charged for trafficking and this time she's gotten off. 46-year-old Orange Walk resident with origins in Nicaragua, Reyna Urbina, walked free today after the most recent charges against her were struck out in the Orange Walk Magistrate's Court.
Urbina had been facing two counts of labour trafficking and two counts of sex trafficking.
However, shortly before midday, the matter was dismissed following a successful application by her attorney, Dr. Lynden N. Jones. Jones argued that the Orange Walk Prosecution Branch repeatedly failed to meet disclosure deadlines as well as court orders. He submitted that these breaches violated Urbina's constitutional right to a fair hearing under Section 6 of the Belize Constitution.
The presiding Magistrate, Sharmaine Gillette, upheld the application and struck out the charges..
Urbina was arrested and charged on November 13, 2025, following a joint investigation by the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Police Unit. Police alleged that she trafficked two adult Central American women for purposes of labour and sexual exploitation.
Prior to this offence, Urbina pleaded guilty in 2023 for facilitating the commission of an offence after she pleaded guilty to helping a Guatemalan woman enter into Belize illegally.
