3 Honduran Fishermen Fined For Fishing In Marine Reserve

Three Honduran fishermen were busted fishing inside the Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve last Friday at around 10:45 in the morning. They caught during a routine patrol by TIDE and the Belize Coast Guard. The fishermen were charged with engaging in commercial fishing in conservation zone 4, fishing without a valid fisherfolk license, fishing without a valid vessel license, and possession of fish fillets without a skin patch. The men were fined $1,000 per person for each of the offenses along with immigration related fines of $1,005. Their vessel, engine, equipment, and marine products, were confiscated as well.
