Last night a brazen drive-by shooting on Collins Boulevard in San Ignacio left 30-year-old Carlton McKoy and an innocent 5-year-old boy wounded. According to police, shortly before 7:40 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire and found McKoy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators say McKoy had driven onto Collins Boulevard when occupants of a parked vehicle allegedly opened fire on his vehicle, firing several rounds. During the attack, a five-year-old boy, who was walking home with his mother along Bullet Tree Road, was struck by a bullet despite having no apparent connection to the intended target.
Both victims were transported for medical treatment. The child was later transferred to the KHMH, while McKoy remains hospitalized. Police have confirmed that both are in stable condition.
This is one more shooting in a troubling spate of violence in the Cayo District, which has seen five shootings and one violent home invasion recorded within the past month. Despite multiple police investigations, no major breakthroughs have been announced.
