After breaking for a couple of months from showing Belizean art - the Image Factory will tonight open a new exhibit featuring purely local artists.

23 artists from across the country have had their works mounted at the Image Factory gallery giving an impressive look at the development of art in the past few months. We today stopped in for a preview.

Gilvano Swasey, Image Factory
"The whole concept behind it is bringing all different artists together in one show and basically showcasing their talents and most of all their techniques to show that though Belize is small as we say and we live in one environment these artists express themselves in different ways."

"Most importantly too is to let the single person who cannot go to solo shows to come in one place and get to enjoy all of Belizean art."

"The dominating style is very typical for most art environments - realism. That is the something that most viewers can relate to whatever you see you can relate to because if it is a coconut tree you know it's a coconut tree. But they are other things; they are artists who have been exposed to outside like Nelson Young and Cubism. There is also different styles like Michael Gordon's Folk Art meaning its very raw, there is no training, he is not concerned about pretty color or straight edges. He doesn't paint inside the box then."

"I believe it became very comfortable the idea of bringing artists together and I personally see what I have been missing as an artist and I can share these ideas with other artists and it marks another point for the Image Factory."

The show opens tonight at the image factory.
