Enhancing commercial linkages with Guatemala: it's a grand and clever plan to promote informal alliances between Belize and Guatemala, alliances that the architects of the design hope will someday foster the kind of bi-national fraternity which diplomacy never could. And as part of the Belize Chamber of Commerce's portion of the programme, it today held a culture day at the House of Culture. The event featured among other things Guatemalan food and entertainment. The event's organizer Alyssa Noble explains that the culture day gives Belizeans an opportunity to experience some part of our neighbor's life.
Alyssa Noble,
"Today we are just having a little bit of Guatemala culture here in Belize. We are exposing the general Belizean public to arts and craft, food, the different music, different types of entertainment, and different parts of Guatemalan culture that you might not necessarily be aware of and just trying to put it out here so everybody can see. Today we have Guatemalan food, local Guatemalan dishes, as well as some juices. We have arts and craft displays and we have displays that some of the secondary level students have helped to create where they'll be competing for scholarships, a fully loaded computer, and some cash. We have a poster contest that the primary level kids have submitted where they'll be competing for a portable DVD player, DVDs, a fully loaded computer, and a scholarship as well. So we have all different kind of aspects that we are trying to integrate here so we have a lot of things on display here."
