29 children today completed a 2 week art program which was conducted at the Belize Defense force. The children ranging in ages from 4 and up were taught the basics of art. So what does art have to do with the army? The organizers explained.

Reginald Bennett, Art Instructor
"What I was offering was landscapes and seascapes. Basically the children learnt to mix colors, they had the opportunity to learn to put what I explained into practice doing practical work as you can see here, and a new technique that's called one stroke painting like the example that's on the board and on the stand. So in a space of two weeks you see what the children did and I was impressed by what they learnt."

Capt. Louis Sutherland, BDF
"The aim of this art class was two-fold. Firstly it provides an entertainment for the children during the summer vacation and secondly, and more important, it teaches the dynamite of art and painting itself. So it gives back to the community in a very significant way."

The program will be held annually.
