The September Calendar is already packed with all kinds of festivities to commemorate the 10th and 21st. But if none of the events planned for this year is quite to your liking, then maybe some planned by the Institute of Creative Arts will be more appealing. ICA's Leroy Green ran the schedule down for us.

"Ours start this Friday when there will be a concert with Frankie Reneau and on Sunday he will be here again at the Bliss, again in concert, with other Belizean musicians.

On the 7th, which is next Tuesday, starting at 6:30 we'll be having the second annual Children's Talent Parade, since its revival last year, and we're asking you the media to help us to encourage children to come in and register right here at the Bliss. Each child can do a poem, a song, a dance, or something like that and each child who participates will get a present. We are catering for one hundred children at 6:30, at the Memorial Park.

On the 9th of September, at 2:30 in the afternoon, we are planning a show for the high school students right here at the Bliss, because most of the times they get left out of the celebrations, you know they have the Children's Rally but that's for primary school, so we're trying to do something especially for the high school students this year.

On the 13th of September, at 7:30, we're reviving the Voice of Belize, that's a singing contest. There are two categories: gospel and popular music and we are opening it to all ages. There will be monetary prizes plus certificates and plaques. We are asking people again to come in and register here at the Bliss.

On the 17th, in conjunction with UNICEF, there will a concert, all day, right in the parking lot adjacent to the Bliss. And on the Sunday we are sponsoring a deejay competition right in that same parking lot from one until eight. We are doing this to try and cater to people of all ages and tastes.

When we look at the celebrations, it didn't have everybody's taste so that's what we are trying to do at ICA: try and cater to everyone's taste."

The September celebrations will officially open tomorrow night at the Treasury Building on Regent Street at 7.
