If you're among those who think that all the police can do is "act bad," on Friday night you can go and see a lot of them that act well. The department has re-activated it Performance Acting Corp and on Friday night they're putting on a show that organizer Edward Broaster hopes will dispel all memories of "bad-acting."
ASP Edward Broaster, Director
"We'll be having drama, poetry, dance, and some comedy. This is basically entertainment to educate the Belizean community, as well as our police officers as to how they can play a vital role in the diminishing of crime in our city. Through dramatization, they would probably more easily receive the message that we're trying bring across to them."
PC Christine Avila, Actress
"I guess that's doing my community policing. Exposing ourselves by showing that we can do police work and we can also recreate in our jobs likewise. I am new in the drama club and its something I've loved from I was small and I believe I'll be an asset to the PACT."
ASP Edward Broaster,
"I don't consider it making 'poppysho' of ourselves, it will be a significant night, an exciting night. The dramas that we have written are pretty excellent dramas, and pretty much in the line of the police and community working together and coming together closely. In order to excite those to come out you don't want to hear about the drama from your friends, believe you me. I don't want to hear about no one banging their heads on the table, the desk, or the door and saying they wish they had gone or anything like that."
The show is set for Friday night at 7:00 at the Bliss Center. Adults are $7 and children $3. You can get tickets from those folks you just saw, at the Police Department in Belize City, or at the Chon Saan Palace.
