Lloyd Lovindeer, he's the man responsible for such early dancehall classics as "Babylon Boops," "Noh Ben Down," and_ "Wild Gilbert." And though his time at the top of the charts may have passed, Lovindeer still sings the songs that make a whole generation sing along. This weekend, he'll be singing those songs to an audience at the Princess Hotel poolside and he told us it will be a vintage evening.
Keith Swift,
For people who don't know about Lovindeer, tell us about yourself.
Lloyd Lovindeer, Performing February 11th
"Well I am kind, warm, friendly, thoughtful, loving..." (laughing)
Keith Swift,
Tell us about your music.
Lloyd Lovindeer,
"Well it started from way back, you remember songs like 'no bend down,' 'Babylon boop,' and 'wild Gilbert,' and 'man shortage,' and lately I've been doing some dancehall stuff like 'tek buddy,' 'dancing buddy,' and those type of songs. If you have existed on this earth for like forty years and you making music all that time, it is a blessing and you give thanks to know that the music that you made during that period, people can still listen to it now and feel a part of it and identify with it. So you give thanks to know there is still demand for your services. Granted it is not on the forefront or the big stage anymore with the big artists like the Bounty Killer and the Shaggy and those kind of people but, as my granny used to say, 'every hoar got his stick of bush.' In other words there is something for everyone so you may not like rap music, you may not like a lot of dancing, you might like soca, and there is an audience for you."
Lovindeer will perform alongside that reggae icon by the name of Gregory, that's Gregory Isaacs who arrives on Friday.
