By April of this year, a statutory body called the Belize Transport Authority will be responsible for the administration of road service permits and the management of all bus terminals. That's the Cabinet endorsed solution to the transport industry chaos. Through the zoning of routes and public management of terminal facilities, the authority will be tasked to promote managed competition while ensuring reliable and stable service to commuters. Right now, it's an important future prospect for beleaguered daily commuters, but with the Transport Department's regulatory ineptitude which has been manifest for the past 5 years, we'll wait and see what the Transport Authority brings in April.
