In 1944 Lena Baker was sentenced to death and later electrocuted for killing her abusive white employer. This weekend, for the first time Lena's story will be told on a Belizean stage. That will be done through Jamaican actress Makeda Solomon. We first told you about Solomon last week. Her acclaimed "Who will sing for Lena" will be staged at the Bliss tonight. Yesterday Solomon told us why her play is a must see.

Makeda Solomon, Actress
"The play, Who Will Sing for Lena, its hard hitting, it's very entertaining. Its emotionally moving play. People say its takes you on an emotional roller coaster because we are dealing with a real woman, a woman who lived sixty years ago. She was electrocuted in Georgia. It's a very fast moving type of play. It takes me through different characters, there's a Jamaican narrator, there's Lena at six years old, there's the white mill owner that actually abused her for many years. So it's the movement of a person's life, telling their story and giving this woman a voice finally that we are hoping to get across to the Belizean audience."

The play will also run tomorrow night. Showtime is 8 pm.
