The Constitution Park at the corner of Cemetery Road and Johnson Street is near the heart of Belize City. But 20 years after it was opened as a recreational area, the park became an eyesore. Well no more because the park has now received its first facelift in more than 2 decades. As we told you in February, BTL adopted the Constitution Park and today it was opened. 7NEWS was there.
Keith Swift Reporting,
This is what the constitution park on cemetery road looked like in February. The concrete benches were badly in need of a paint job and most of them were broken. Only the metal frame remained for where swings once swung. The slide looked like it was going to fall any minute and the same can be said for what was left of the fence.
Four months and $75,000 later the ribbon to what BTL calls a rejuvenated "BTL Constitution Park" was cut this morning by the Chairman of BTL's Executive Committee Dean Boyce and City Councilor Laura Esquivel.
There are now picnic tables, benches, and seesaws. The swings are back, one is even custom made for a baby. There is now a slide, which today doubled as a playhouse. Everything, down to the new garbage bins, are of course covered with a fresh coat of BTL's trademark white and green colors. Dean Boyce says choosing the colors was easy but choosing Constitution Park was easier.
Dean Boyce, Chairman of BTL's Executive Committee
"This is an area that really does require this sort of a project. There is not a lot of green around here so its important that the space that is available is useable and friendly to the local community. We've been looking at this for

some time and this is the one that was selected. The local community thinks it's a great idea so we are prepared to put together the initial implementation and then to maintain it in that condition for the foreseeable future."
And no spin here but students from Wesley Upper School who test drove the park agreed.

Boy #2,
