Recent torrential rains over the past week have brought out the absolute worst in the Northern Highway. We are talking about the stretch between the Sav-U Plaza and Haulover Bridge and we are referring to the potholes. The good news tonight is that those holes will be patched but the bad news is that it won't happen until after the rain which won't be until sometime next week. City councilor in charge of infrastructure Anthony Michael told us why.

Anthony Michael, Belize City Councilor
"We hear there is another tropical wave approaching Belize over the weekend. We are doing the necessary infrastructure right now in terms of the drainage; we are still working out there so we don't have that amount of flooding again. But we would like to explain to the residents that presently on the Northern Highway they will see the people out there from the Works Department at the Belize City Council filling the potholes with sand and gravel. This is only a temporary measure so we don't cause damage to people's vehicles. We cannot patch right now because as soon as you patch, the ground is still wet and the tar won't hold. So we would like to explain to the people that this is only a temporary measure. As soon as the rain passes over the weekend and we get a couple says of sun, we will be patching the streets."
