Belize will have a very special guest for its 25th anniversary. Former Jamaican Prime Minister PJ Patterson will arrive on the thirteenth September and will be participating in a number of activities, most prominently a lecture on the significance of independence for a small Caribbean state. Patterson will also receive the Order of Belize.
As former Jamaican Prime Minister, he lent critical support to the idea of an independent Belize in the years leading up to independence. The 71-year-old Patterson served as Jamaican Prime Minister from 1992 until February of this year, the longest uninterrupted term in that country's history.
