The Mexican Ambassador to Belize Arturo Trejo today called 7NEWS to confirm that this year's friendship fair has been cancelled because Belize's government could not grant the exemption for revenue replacement duty on Mexican beer. Ambassador Trejo explained that the beer is important to the event because it attracts crowds and the money they make from it pays for the cultural component of the show. Trejo stressed that he is not protesting government's decision, because he understands the zero exemption policy. He said that if the exemption policy is relaxed, they will make a request again next year.
