Unless you've been living under a rock somewhere there's a good chance that you've had breakfast with Kalila Enriquez. She's the co-host of Krem's WUB Morning Vibes, and now her excellency has published a book of poems. It's a sometimes killer crossover form journalism to lyricism, but Kalila told us, she pulls it off in her first book called "unfettered."

Kalila Enriquez,
"Unfettered is a collection of thirty five poems in the book and sixteen poems that are recorded. There are artists featured on there so I try to bring in top notch Belizean artists. These are people who I have great respect for. The reason why I chose to do a book and a CD together is because there are some poems that are written to be read and there are other poems that are written to be heard. I experimented with a lot of different poems.

Some of the ones that you might say are not poetry actually have a name, they are called free verse and there is the dub side poetry, there is blank verse in there, there are a couple of sonnets in there, there are two sonnets. There is the use of poetic technique that is also in there. So even in the poems that don't have definable genres, there is still poetic technique inside them.

I call it a book on love and life. About half of it is love poems and by love I mean..."

Sex.

Kalila Enriquez,
"...Sex, to infatuation, to romantic love for a child, my daughter. And then there are poems on life like the poem 'execution style' which was written for Leslie Rogers Junior. The poem for Irene Wallace, which is written for her son Andrew Wallace who was killed at the age of thirteen. And then are poems on identity, poems like Roots and Garifuna Drummer. There are poems on just a range of issues."

She says the compilation are a selection of poems produced over 5 years. Today's launch was just for the press, but an official launch to the public will be held tomorrow night at the Image Factory.
