On Wednesday the Salvation Army will hold its annual Christmas party for one thousand primary school students. It has become a tradition where the children are given Christmas lunch and a toy - for many it might be the only toy they'll get this Christmas. But this year some children might not even get that one toy. That's because so far the Salvation Army has only collected six hundred toys. They still need 4 hundred more and there's only 4 days to go! The Salvation Army's Major Errol Robateau today appealed for help.

Major Errol Robateau,
"We are tremendously under. I just came from the Port a while ago and I'll be getting maybe another hundred or more toys from abroad but we still have a long way to go. We can safely say we are about six to seven hundred toys now. We need one thousand for Wednesday.

The toys are mainly for the needy kids in and around the city. We work with the various schools in order to have control and teachers choose the poorest of the poor children within the school and that way we eliminate duplications as well as we ensure that the poorest of the poor receive help."

Keith Swift,
You think you'll meet the target by Wednesday?

Major Errol Robateau,
"We are hoping so. We work by faith and not by sight and therefore we are trusting the public to reach that goal."

If you are interested in donating a toy, you can drop it off at the Salvation Army's main office on Regent Street.
