Last week the Salvation Army made Christmas a bit more special for underprivileged children when they hosted their annual Christmas party. And in the tradition of the army today they handed out what they call adult parcels. It consists of a few groceries bagged off for distribution to citizens 60 years and older. Organizer of the event Captain Anthony Sanchez explains that it's a yearly event that is organized to aid those persons in need.

Capt. Anthony Sanchez, Salvation Army
"What we normally do each year is provide adults food parcels for the elderly so that they can have a little better Christmas than normal. Along with our members from the church, we go out at nighttime to do some caroling. What I mean by caroling is we play wind instruments and we solicit funds from the public as well and the funds that we receive from the public we turn around and we buy the food items to distribute for the elderly.

The Salvation Army always believes in sharing and caring and we believe Christmas time is a time whereby we share and we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ so that's the reason why the Salvation Army came up with this idea, so that we can help out the community as well."

Similar packages will be distributed in other districts later this week.
