Last Friday the Salvation Army launched its annual Christmas Kettle Appeal. The Army hopes to raise $30,000 between now and Christmas Eve. But the Army needs more than just cash, they need toys – thousands of them. And today the Rotary Club launched its annual toy drive to help. Rotary’s Eddie Bouloy says their target is 2,500 new or used toys.
Eddy Bouloy, Rotary Club
“Whether you’re going to be dropping off a used toy or clearing out your closet or dropping off a new toy, again we are asking you to be generous. As you can see Hofius has toys as low as $2.95. You can afford to buy several of them and put them in there. So please support our toy drive.”
Keith Swift,
Are you looking for a specific type of toy?
Eddy Bouloy,
“No, we are not looking for specific types of toys. We generally get 50-50 boys and girls. What we are looking for is generosity. We want people to give from their heart.”
Keith Swift,
How many toys do you need?
Major Errol Robateau, Salvation Army
“Actually based on last year we did 2,500 plus so we would be looking for that this year again and of course if we can get more, we will appreciate it.”
Keith Swift,
Who will these toys go to?
Major Errol Robateau,
“They go to the most neediest children, both in Belize City and in the rural areas.”
The drop-off bins are located in Hofius, Mirab, Sav-U, and at Brodies downtown and on the Northern Highway.
