They say the city has no pity but at Christmas time, some cheer does come out. And the City Council is trying to swell that spirit by putting up a city Christmas tree. All ten feet aren't up yet but tonight City Council employees are working overtime to erect the city's 10 foot tall Christmas tree in time for tomorrow's tree lighting. It will be lit at 6 pm at the BTL Constitution Park. The councilor in charge is Laura Esquivel and she told us more.
Laura Esquivel, City Councilor
"It is our small way of bringing a little bit of joy into the city, something that the City Council does every year and so starting at 6 pm in the BTL Constitution Park we will be officially having our tree lighting ceremonies. We are going to have dances, we are going to have poems, we are going to have bands playing, and we are going to try and do small little raffles here and there and we are going to have little goody bags for children. When I say goody bags I am talking about little bags filled with apples and candy and things like that for kids."
Tomorrow's tree lighting ceremony begins at 6 pm.
