The men and women of the Belize Defense Force serve on the frontlines of this country’s borders and on the frontline of the war against crime in the streets of Belize City everyday. But for one day every year they get served by no less than the Prime Minister. This afternoon the soldiers were the guests of honor at the BDF’s annual Christmas luncheon at Price Barracks. The soldiers sat while Prime Minister Said Musa, Minister of Defense Rodwell Ferguson, and the army’s top brass distributed the food. The BDF’s Commander Brigadier General Lloyd Gillett says it is a way of giving thanks to the men and women of Belize’s army.

Brig. Gen. Lloyd Gillett, BDF Commander
“The military is steep in traditions and one of our traditions is the officers serving the soldiers and every year we get the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense to come to assist us in. This is a way of thanking the soldiers because throughout the year they serve us and we want to thank them for their dedicated service to the country, it allows the BDF to provide for the security, stability, and prosperity of Belize. Its important so that they know the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, the CEO of Defense, the commanders, the officers care about their conditions and they want to share with them at Christmas time."

The BDF will shortly announce an intake for new soldiers.
