And there was another well-known figure leaving a high profile job today. Dr. Ramon Figueroa, the Director of the NHI Programme since its inception 1999 for the Social Security Board has quite suddenly resigned that post. Despite many attempts, we could not reach Figueroa for comment.
The Social Security Board issued a release acknowledging his departure today. But the truth has to be the Figueroa’s decision to resign now has to be considered pivotal. And that’s because NHI is facing a national rollout, and contracts are being signed with primary care providers. And his leaving now necessarily raises questions about that entire process – kinda like a pilot leaving the cockpit when the plane is about to take off.
NHI will require financing of upwards of $35 million a year. When last we checked no one had said where that is coming from.
