And while Mr. Easy has a Christmas concert, he can only hope for the kind of success that Positive Vibes had this weekend with the Masters of the Floor Competition. It was staged at the Brodies parking lot on the Northern Highway, and while it had the advantage of being free, it was popular with young people, because it featured the best at popular styled of dancing. Organizer Joseph Stamp told us how events like this can help create a culture of peace amongst rival youths.
Joseph Stamp, Organizer
"I think this competition, people might see it as just a dance competition but to me it was bigger than that. The reason is that hip-hop has a really really big hold on young people and for them to understand that at the end of the day it is just dance and they are having fun, that is what attracts them - the dancing aspect and the coming out and having fun. We went to a lot of schools during the competition when it started and what was important to us, what we saw was that young people didn't have a problem with each other. As you said, it was aggressive, clowning each other, a lot of dissing each other, as they might call it, but at the end of the day, they were shaking hands, they were hugging each others - so that was a really good part of the competition, that it was a dance competition that brought youths together who danced against each other, who did not like what happening on stage, but at the end of the day no fight started."
At the end of it, Joseph Gentle was crowned Master of the Floor 2007.
