Mothers have organized for peace and now fathers are organizing against child abuse. In light of the recent cases of fathers abusing daughters in Dangriga – a group of fathers have joined with their government and non-governmental partners for the “Fathers in Solidarity Against Abuse” March on Sunday in Dangriga. Bert Ramos is spearheading the movement and he told us why they’ll march.
Bert Ramos, Organizer
“The reason why we are having this demonstration is because quite recently we have heard about a case in Dangriga where some kids were molested. So me as a father I took it up and then I said we could have a demonstration to show guys like these that there are a lot of responsible fathers out there and we are totally against it.
We are asking people from the community, fathers who continue calling me and asking me what day and what time, I am asking them that this is the time for them to come out and show your solidness towards your child, show that you are 100% against child abuse.”
Keith Swift,
Why do you think this is necessary, what message do you want to send?
Bert Ramos,
“Well the message that I want to send is a strong message to men who are out there doing this sort of crime, that this crime is a that – it is like you have murdered your own child or you have murdered my child or a neighbor’s child when you commit – especially like sexual offense against a young little girl or young little boy. So I am sending this message to the sex offenders that we are out here and we are ready to fight against it."
The march set is 3 pm on Sunday beginning at the Princess Royal Park in Dangriga heading onto Front Street and continuing through the town’s principal streets – ending back at the Principal Royal Park. If you want to get involved, contact Bert Ramos at 660-1883.
