And while the kids were drumming up support in Orange Walk, the senior gals were strutting their stuff in the city. Miss Y 2008 -2009 is sixty two year old Belize City resident Joyce Flowers who also topped the talent competition.
For her prize Joyce Flowers won a round trip ticket to the United States courtesy American Airlines and one year free medical service at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, six hundred dollars in cash and an assortment of jewelry. Irene Novelo captured second place and third place went to Adelia Young.
According to the Y while they do not know yet just how much proceeds were raised they are hoping that at least they have managed to collect the usual fifteen thousand dollars. The money will be used to renovate the Y building at the corner of Freetown Road and St. Thomas Street.
