First there were thirty seven entries but tonight at the House of Culture only nine will be judged. The patriotic song competition held to set the September celebration mood is just about to get underway at the Belize House of Culture. The presentations will be backed by the Youth Connection Band and promise to be quite a festive treat for both the young and old. Today 7NEWS caught up with one of the organizers of the event the acting director for the ICA Gregory Vernon.

Gregory Vernon, Organizer
“The patriotic song competition is basically to launch the September activities. It was done last year but it was done within the September celebrations and so at the September Celebrations Committee we have decided that it needs to be well ahead of the September celebrations, meaning giving the public a chance to get in the mood for the September celebrations. We want them to listen to the patriotic songs and become favourable towards which song they would like best.

The genre of music is very wide, we have from soca to punta to country and western to ballads so it is very wide. The artists have come out real strong this year and we are very happy to entertain the public so it is should be a very well rounded performance.”

The patriotic song competition started at seven tonight at the House of Culture.
