Independence Day is Sunday but it will be celebrated on Monday –and there are major changes you need to know. Firstly the official ceremony will be held on Sunday morning and the parade and all day street bram on Monday. The route for the parade has changed and so has the location for the street bram – which has moved from downtown to Marine Parade. Mayor and co chair of the September Celebrations Committee Zenaida Moya explained the changes.

Mayor Zenaida Moya, Co-Chair September Celebrations Committee
“This year the route will be the same route that we had on the Tenth. We will be leaving Memorial Park, we will be going to North Front Street. On North Front Street we will going straight up, turning left onto Bel-China Bridge, and from Bel-China Bridge we will move on into Vernon Street and left into Magazine Road and then another left into Cemetery Road and on to Orange Street and then right into Albert Street. Albert Street we go all the way to Yabra where we will end the parade at Yabra.

There will be a huge bram. We are having it this year at the Marine Parade area and Memorial Park will be used for that as well. So that entire area will be locked on and we will be having a huge bram there. We will be having the same thing, the place will be lined with a lot of different persons selling their different foods and items and there will be drinks. We will have the bars, we will have a lot of music. Again we will have the best there.”

It’s of note that the PUP has sent out a release stating that it will not participate in any events being held on Monday September 22nd because Independence Day should be celebrated on the 21st.
