Today Belize brought home the trophy for the Caribbean Regional Nutritional Quiz Competition. Four high school students from Belize beat out students from 14 other countries to reach the top. The final battle was between Belize and Antigua and we won. The team left last week and returned home with their trophy and medal this afternoon. 7NEWS was there for the homecoming.

There was energy at the airport this afternoon as the four students who walked out as champions of the region - with their trophy held high.
Pedro Garcia, Brought Home the Trophy
“I feel like butterflies and I feel so excited and I feel proud of my country and my school. We won first place, we are regional champions of the food and nutrition in the whole of the Caribbean. We beat 13 Caribbean countries. It feels exciting, I see some of my friends, my principal, and I feel very very good. Very very happy, I dream about this moment and I think my dream came true.”

“It was a little bit challenging but we managed it. I am from San Pedro High School. We won a trophy. We won our medals and we are champions of the Caribbean. It is the first time Belize is winning. I dreamt of this and it came true.”

“We were competing against Antigua and it was pretty competitive but the best team won and I feel we did pretty well.”
And it was a victory these students say they had to fight for.

“It was intense, a lot of questions were asked and a lot of critical thinking but we showed we were better than the team from Antigua. It is beautiful. I will never forget this experience and I really encourage all students to join the food and nutrition teams in their schools because it is really worth it. It is worth the time, it is worth everything.”
The four students are from Sacred Heart College, Orange Walk Technical High School, and San Pedro High School. Along with medals the students also received cash prize. You can say they were lent the trophy since they’ll have to pass it on to next year’s winner.
