The annual Bruk Dong Competition will be held tomorrow night. The first thing you need to know is that this year it will be held at the House of Culture. What’s also new is that while veterans like Leelah Vernon and Brother David will be competing, this year there will be a junior section. There are three entrants and one of them is the Young Creations Band from Wesley College. We caught up with the group at practice this afternoon.

“Well we are Creole and your family tells you this is different type of dancing which the Creole does do and then in school they teach us more about the Creole culture. Sometimes the teacher would show us a little dance and we adapted to it. We had to write our own original song which in me, my father, and these guys, we battled it out and had fun while we were doing that.”
Again the competition will be held at the House of Culture.
