Albert Street has looked like a war zone for the past 7 months, but tonight it looks like a boulevard of dreams, or almost like one. That’s because the surfacing work to lay the much anticipated hot mix is being put down – and for those weary area workers and residents – even the light pre-surfacing looks like a reprieve from the months of dust and disillusionment. But though it looks much better, it’s still far form finished. Works Minister Boots Martinez was touring the area today and told us that finally the Mikado Santa can take off his dust mask.
Hon. Anthony Boots Martinez, Minister of Works
“This is the preparation for the hot mix. If you look, this base is set. If you are not careful you would believe this is the hot mix but this is just the appetizer before we bring the real lunch.”
Jules Vasquez,
How far are we away from that main course?
Hon. Anthony Boots Martinez,
“Well the schedule is right on target and I think with the tolerance of the good Lord and healthy weather I think by the schedule date of the 16th of December, we are right on target and the contractor is right on target. This is the surfacing and the material has in a lot of concrete texture, it is a concrete layer texture which will and hold and get ready for the hot mix to be placed on top.”
And true enough when we checked, the Santa’s dust mask was gone.
