It is Bob Marley’s birthday and Belize will be celebrating all weekend long. They begin tonight at the House of Culture where the Singers and Players of Instruments Band will hold its 16th tribute to Bob Marley. It is actually a tour which kicks off tonight. Organizer Emerson Guild told us about the mystical line up.

“The format is straight Bob Marley music. We are playing nobody else’s music but Bob’s music tonight. We’ve rehearsed about 37 different songs and he has a quite few more. So we are looking forward to doing that with all the love that we can for music and deliver the message that he has left us in his music and in his lyrics. If you listen to his music and you listen to the words of his songs, you will see that Bob Marley had a special place in our history as a world. When he talked about one love, he was talking about one love around the world. When we talk about love here in Belize, it is scarce. So we are trying to in effect inject the love of self through the music.
If you don’t come out you’ll be missing one of the most fantastic reggae concert that a local group has ever put together. I guarantee that tonight.”
Tonight’s show starts at 8 and the entrance fee is good behaviour. It is a travelling show which will be San Ignacio tomorrow night at the Culture Club and at the Rose Woods Studio in Punta Gorda on Sunday.
