And one municipality who is excellent at public relations, and who has no problem in remaining visible is the Belize City Council. As we reported months ago, the City Council is working very hard to renovate the BTL Park on New Town Barracks.
Today, they held a ceremony to note how far the development has reached, and at the gathering, Mayor Bradley outlined the plan for its second phase.
Dr. Dionne Miranda - GM Customer Service, BTL

"BTL has invested almost $1million dollars in this park over the past ten years. Everyday Angelie and her team fight to make sure that this park is cleaned everyday - making sure that the furniture is intact, that we changed it from wood to concrete - whatever it is. So having partners means a lot more to us because it's not only a BTL interest anymore, it's more a city-wide interest - a carry wide interest, a councilor interest. It means that this park - what we saw in it ten years ago will actually go on. My team is extremely excited - the BTL team loves to have it's name on it but it's also more exciting that we're actually going to see it turn into something that is amazing."
Darrell Bradley - Mayor, Belize City Council

"We are now moving into phase 2 and phase 3 of the project and phase 2 will involve the putting in of basic infrastructure of the park. The raising of the park by 6 inches, the putting in of spaces for people to walk, spaces for people to enjoy - we're going to put in a fountain for kids, we are going to put in greenery and we're going to build an amphi-theatre that can accommodate large concerts. We are going to overlay the entire park with kiosks so that we will have a space that is teaming with economic opportunity - opportunity for social enjoyment and meaningful interactions - we're actually going to put a beach area to the park and we will fill that area with beach sand. We're also going to put two volleyball courts and we are actively working with the volleyball association of Belize so that more people can use the park as a space where promoting enjoyment and recreation. We're also going to put a 100ft pier that will go into the ocean and there will be a step that will allow people to interact with the park space."
According to Mayor Bradley, the total cost for this renovation is estimated at 1.2 Million dollars, and the new park is expected to be opened in November, the latest.
