And you heard Mayor Bradley mention quite a few times that these upgrades are part of the Belize City Master Plan.

So, for those of you who may not be aware of what that master plan is, he explained that it has been made public for 3 years.

Darrel Bradley - Mayor of Belize City

"It's a lot of work that we're trying to do in a short space of time - we are asking people for their patience. A lot of the work will become seen in a very short period of time. The long term plan for downtown is to do the downtown free zone so aside from doing all the streets in the downtown and doing this part of the project which is taking out that street and doing Battlefield - we are painting all the homes. We want to put in place the legislation so that people could get their license in duty free in that area. The Master Plan is accessible in the Belize City Council's which is www.belizecitycouncil.bz and it's right on the first page - there's a big link that says 'master plan' and that has been there for two years - as it was developed, the former councilors put it on the City Council's website. I was at that time of the legal representative of the City Council - I remember that I participated in public consultations. At the time many of these consultations were held at the City Council offices - of course the Master Plan was developed from IDB funding and the lead agency for that was the BTB so the City Council was a partner agency but it was developed by the Belize Tourism Board but there was widespread public consultations and as that document was finished it was published on the City Council's website. So it's available to the public - I think we need to articulate that more to tell people that there is a master plan and this is what we're doing but it is available to the public."
