It's the end of an era at NICH; the longtime director at the Institute of Creative Arts, Greg Vernon, has been let go after his contract expired back in September 2020 and was not renewed. According to a release from NICH, the reason is due to cost saving measures that they have had to take because of COVID-19. These measures have so far included cutting back on non-essential expenditures and other expenses, as well as salary cuts since May.

The release lamented its decision not to renew Vernon's contract by calling him a fixture in Belize's arts and culture industry as a dancer and choreographer with the Belize Dance Company and as an employee of the Belize Arts Council. He has also served as Interim President of NICH.
