Earlier in the news we told you about a donation of medical supplies for clinics and health centres - especially hose that will threat tourists.

But those prospective probably still have doubts about travelling and those are certainly solidified by the CDC's new stage 4 designation for Belize. It's a subject we discussed with the US Charge' last week but this morning we put the same question to the Minister of tourism. Here's his take.

"Last week we ask the charge d affaires of the US Embassy about the CDC stage 4 designation for Belize at this point. One of the reasons we have that designation is because our hospitals are at capacity. How you feel that this donation for example will help us emerge from that stage 4 designation and do you feel that its going to stop our efforts in tourism moving forward?"

Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism
"Stage four has been put on multiple destinations because COVID-19 is rampant all over the world so like everybody is compared to the same level other than Barbados. But this will definitely help to deal with the crisis at hand. And when we talk to the counterparts at the U.S. we will say, we are putting these things in place, let's have a discussion about those advisories."

Reporter
"Does that stage 4 designation harm everything we are doing when it comes to the gold standards certification and everything else to get the wheels starting again with tourism?"

Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism
"It does put us a step back, but we are working on getting pass that."

Belize is just one of 174 countries that have received the CDC's new stage 4 designation.
