The Dr. Dame Minta Gordon's remains departed the House of Culture at 2 p.m. to return to Coye's Funeral Home to prepare for the culminating event, tomorrow's state funeral.
And tomorrow church bells across Belize will toll ahead of that major event. Those funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Cathedral on Regent Street. Due to COVID restrictions, it will not be open to the public but the Prime Minister, and the Leader of the Opposition will give official remembrances, while a family member will deliver the eulogy.
And even though public officers will have to pay their respects from afar, approval for the midday closure of government offices has been approved on Wednesday, January 20th as a mark of respect for Belize's first Head of State. You can see it live here on Channel 7.
